Cedar is a forgiving material to work with — it's dimensionally stable, machines cleanly, and accepts fasteners without splitting when done right. The result is a deck that looks handcrafted because it is. It also ages in a way most homeowners find appealing, which is something composite can approximate but not quite replicate.
